George graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Lehigh University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 1972 and received his Juris Doctor degree with distinction from Duke University Law School in 1975. After a one-year clerkship at the North Carolina Industrial Commission, he began his civil litigation practice with our firm in 1976 and became a partner in 1978.

George is the firm's managing partner. In addition to his administrative and management duties, the current focus of his practice is in the area of professional liability, premises liability, business and other serious civil litigation matters, and workers' compensation.

George currently serves on both the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys and the Board of Trustees of the North Carolina Bar Association Health Benefit Trust. He has been a member of the Select Drafting Committee of the North Carolina State Bar since 1998 and previously served on the North Carolina Bar Association's Litigation Section Council. He has also served as defense attorney representative to the North Carolina Industrial Commission's Advisory Council since 1997 and was a council member of the North Carolina Bar Association's Workers' Compensation Section from 1981 to 2001, serving as its Chairman from 1986 to 1988 and from 1997 to 1998.

George has appeared on numerous occasions before North Carolina's Supreme Court and Court of Appeals and in the federal courts, including the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and United States Supreme Court. He has also been a member of the faculty and lecturer at numerous continuing education seminars, including those of the North Carolina Association of Self-Insurers, North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys, North Carolina Claim Managers Association, North Carolina Industrial Commission, Wake Forest University, North Carolina Bar Association, American Academy of Industrial Hygiene, and Occupational Safety and Health Educational Research Institute.

George has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America every year since 1995, he was selected for membership in The Outstanding Lawyers of America in 2003, and he was selected to appear in North Carolina Super Lawyers in the field of Professional Liability Defense in 2006 and again in 2008. He also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of The V Foundation for Cancer Research and the Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic.
