Further, Kate lectures at the North Carolina Bar Association's Annual Review Program. She has also lectured regarding Medical Malpractice in North Carolina at the North Carolina Dermatology Association Conference.
Kate joined our firm in September 2003 and became a partner in January 2011. She divides her practice between workers' compensation, general civil defense litigation and professional liability, including medical malpractice and real estate professional defense. She is a member of the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys, North Carolina State Bar, North Carolina Bar Association and Wake County Bar Association. She was the Chair of the NCADA Membership Committee during the 2007 and 2008 terms. In 2010, Kate was selected for membership in the Council on Litigation Management. Kate worked extensively on a pro bono case that involved three abused children who were temporarily placed with their biological aunt. The children were in danger of being returned to the abusive environment. However, Kate was able to work as their advocate and find an alternative arrangement. They are now in a safer environment.
She is licensed to appear in all of our state courts and in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. Kate has appeared on behalf of clients and argued frequently in Superior Court and at the Industrial Commission. She has also presented for oral argument at the North Carolina Court of Appeals.
