John received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1984 and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1989. John joined our firm in 1989 and has been a partner since 1996. Although the largest portion of his practice concerns the defense of major and complex workers' compensation claims, he also practices in the area of general civil defense litigation, including premises liability, professional malpractice, and personal injury. He has an active trial, mediation, and appellate practice, including regular trial appearances before the United States District Courts of North Carolina, Civil Superior and District Courts of North Carolina, North Carolina Industrial Commission, North Carolina Court of Appeals, and North Carolina Supreme Court.

John is also a frequent lecturer who enjoys speaking to insurance and industry clients on various topics, including those in continuing education programs.
