John graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 2004 and received his Juris Doctor from Appalachian School of Law in Virginia in 2007. While in law school John was a member of the Natural Resources Law Journal, Phi Alpha Delta legal fraternity, and was actively involved in various community service and philanthropic initiatives. After receiving his Juris Doctor, he served as law clerk to Deputy Chief Justice Will T. Scott, of the Kentucky Supreme Court.
John divides his practice between General Liability and Workers' Compensation Defense, representing insurance companies, medical professionals, government entities, businesses, and corporations before North Carolina's state and appellate courts. John recently participated in TCDG's representation of multiple North Carolina counties, prevailing before the Court of Appeals in defense against the misdirection of important State education funding legislation. He has also recently participated in the return of a successful defense verdict in a lengthy wrongful death trial in which, despite a demand of $1.25 million, TCDG was able to convince a jury to return a $0 verdict in favor of its client, County law enforcement officers.
In addition, John carries an active workers' compensation practice, representing TCDG clients at various levels before the North Carolina Industrial Commission and up to the North Carolina Supreme Court, obtaining favorable decisions in the process. John has recently been involved in representing TCDG clients in a case in which the Plaintiff had ensnared his employer in protracted litigation for a number of years. After prevailing at the appellate levels, TCDG was able to persuade the Industrial Commission to bar the Plaintiff's continued litigation of the claim. John is a member of the Executive Board of the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys' (NCADA) Young Lawyers' Committee for 2012-2013, the Western Carolina regional representative for the NCADA Young Lawyers' Committee Networking Section, the North Carolina Bar Association, and the Workers' Compensation Section of the NCADA. John is licensed to practice law in North Carolina and Kentucky.
