Henry received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from East Carolina University in 1971, and a Juris Doctor degree from Wake Forest University in 1974. After graduating from law school, he served as a Judge Advocate in the United States Air Force. He has been practicing with the firm since 1980 and has been a partner since 1985.

Henry has extensive experience defending liability cases involving real estate and insurance professionals, as well as in the litigation of complex coverage and bad faith questions. He also handles cases involving products liability, construction defects, and public officials' liability. Henry serves as an arbitrator and mediator for the American Arbitration Association and is a certified mediator for all Superior Courts in North Carolina, as well as those pending before the Industrial Commission, and in the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of North Carolina. He is a member of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals and the North Carolina Academy of Superior Court Mediators.

Henry's professional memberships include the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys, Defense Research Institute, Association of Defense Trial Attorneys, North Carolina State Bar, North Carolina Bar Association, and Wake County Bar Association. In addition to being licensed to practice in all of the state courts of North Carolina, he is admitted to appear in the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of North Carolina, and the Fourth Circuit of the United States Court of Appeals. Further, Henry is also a past president of the Raleigh Downtown Lion's Club.
