George graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. in Economics from Lehigh University in 1972 and with distinction from Duke University Law School in 1975. After a one year clerkship following law school, he joined the firm in 1976. He became a partner in 1978 and is now its managing partner. In addition to his administrative and management duties, he has focused his practice over the last several years on professional liability and serious civil litigation and workers' compensation matters.

George served as a member of the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys from
2005 - 2008, is Chair of its Law Practice Management Committee, has been a Trustee of the North Carolina Bar Association Health Benefit Trust since 2004, has served as Vice-Chair of the Law Practice Management Committee of the Defense Research Institute (DRI), and has been a member of the Select Drafting Committee of the North Carolina State Bar since 1998. He previously served a three-year term on the North Carolina Bar Association's Litigation Section Council, the executive and governing board for the Litigation Section. George has also served as a defense counsel representative to the North Carolina Industrial Commission's Advisory Council since 1997 and was a council member of the North Carolina Bar Association's Workers' Compensation Committee, now known as the Workers' Compensation Section, from 1981 - 2001, serving as course planner for its 1997 Advanced Workers' Compensation Seminar and as Chairman for the years 1986 - 1988 and 1997 - 1998.

George has an active appellate practice, having appeared on numerous occasions before the North Carolina Supreme Court and Court of Appeals, as well as in the federal courts, including the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and United States Supreme Court. He has also been a member of the faculty and lecturer at numerous continuing education seminars, including those conducted by the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys (1998 and 2007); North Carolina Association of Self-Insurers (2000); North Carolina Industrial Commission (1997 and 1998); Wake Forest University (1989 and 1993); North Carolina Bar Association (1982, 1987 and 1993); American Academy of Industrial Hygiene (1986); and Occupational Safety and Health Educational Research Institute (1985 and 1986).

George has been listed in the last fourteen editions of The Best Lawyers in America, was chosen by his peers to be listed in the North Carolina edition of Super Lawyers for 2006, 2008-2010, and was selected for membership in the Outstanding Lawyers of America in 2003. His professional memberships include the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel, International Association of Defense Counsel, Defense Research Institute and North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of The V Foundation for Cancer Research and the Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic.
