Dayle received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from North Carolina State University in 1975 and a Juris Doctor degree from North Carolina Central University in 1980. He began his legal career as a law clerk to the North Carolina Industrial Commission, where he actively participated in researching and formulating opinions and awards filed by the Full Commission, the appellate body of the Industrial Commission.

Dayle has been a partner since 1988. He divides his time and practice between workers' compensation and general civil defense litigation. He has been listed in the 2003 through 2012 editions of The Best Lawyers in America, was selected for membership in The Outstanding Lawyers of America in 2003, and was chosen by his peers to appear in the 2006 through 2012 editions of North Carolina Super Lawyers. He also has an active appellate practice, including many appearances before the North Carolina Court of Appeals, the North Carolina Supreme Court, and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.

In addition to being licensed to practice in all of the state courts of North Carolina, Dayle is admitted to appear before the United States Supreme Court and in the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of North Carolina. His professional memberships include the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys, North Carolina State Bar, North Carolina Bar Association, and Wake County Bar Association.
